About the book, and the author

David Nathanson is an FPV builder and pilot.

Published product specifications in this book are checked against primary manufacturer sources where those sources are available. Planning allowances, unpublished weights, and author estimates are labelled as such, and finished build values remain estimates until the reader weighs or measures the actual hardware. Where a source could not be reached, or turned out not to say what it was cited for, the book says so rather than borrowing the authority.

A fuller biography, and where to find him, go up when the book ships. What follows matters more for deciding whether to trust a parts list.

How this book was checked

Every FPV guide goes out of date. What decides whether it is still useful in three years is whether the reasoning was sound and whether the numbers were ever right in the first place.

Claims should lead back to a source

Specifications prefer manufacturer documentation; firmware and regulatory guidance prefer the relevant official source. Estimates and unreachable sources must be labelled rather than presented as measured facts.

Shared data is generated, then tested

Curated catalogues feed the bill of materials, calculators and web references. Automated gates catch declared inconsistencies and stale exports. They reduce copy-and-paste drift; they do not replace technical or editorial review.

Retired parts cannot reach a shopping list

When a component is discontinued or renamed it goes on a retired list, and nothing that a reader would order from can name it again. Prose may still discuss it — chapter 6 teaches a buying trap using a frame you can no longer get.

Time-sensitive guidance is treated as time-sensitive

Firmware, product availability and regulations change. References are dated or versioned where practical, and readers are directed to the current official source before acting. Corrections belong in the book source and every generated surface that repeats it.

None of that makes it current forever. Prices move, parts get discontinued, and firmware defaults change between versions. The chapters explain what each component has to do, so you can substitute when the specific part is gone — which it will be.
